Police in Makueni county have launched investigations after three cows were found dead outside a shop in Emali town.

According to residents of the town, the cows had been seen roaming the town on Sunday evening – and they looked just fine.

There is silent suspicion among residents that the cows may have been poisoned – although police are still investigating the incident.

Pictures seen by Wananchi Reporting show carcasses of the three cows strewn in front of the shop – with white foam coming out of their mouths.

Emali Assistant Chief Mike Kivondo confirmed the incident – but also noted that the municipality would take action against the owner of the cows.

“Emali is now a municipality, and we won't allow dogs, cows, goats and pigs to just roam around,” said Kivondo.

He asked residents to keep their livestock away from the town as the new bylaws did not allow animals into the town.

“Keep your animals out of the town. We will not hesitate to take legal actions against anyone who brings their livestock into the town,” warned Kivondo.

The town was just recently elevated to a municipality.

Police said that the owner of the three cows was yet to come out, but added that investigations were underway to determine what may have killed the cows.
