A farmer in Ituka Tene village in Kibwezi, Makueni county, was last night left counting losses after hyenas attacked and killed her goats.

Anne Syombua told Wananchi Reporting that three hyenas attacked her cattle and goats killing eight.

"I heard some commotion at the cattle pen around midnight. I rushed out of the house only to find hyenas eating my goats,” said Syombua.

“We managed to chase the hyenas away, but they had already killed eight goats, and three others were missing from the pen,” she added.

Residents are asking officials from the Kenya Wildlife Services to come to their aid.

“There have been cases of wildlife animals invading our farms. Hyenas, elephants and buffaloes invade our farms all the time,” said Syombua.

Residents claim that some of the wildlife often come to their farms from the direction of Chyullu hills.

There are reports that some of the residents may have invaded park lands.

In May, a middle aged man was reportedly killed by a marauding elephant in Masongaleni ward. A similar incident happened in April where another man was also killed by an elephant in Mtito Andei.
