Citizen TV's Mwanamke Bomba turns 5 years

Popular women-centered TV segment Mwanamke Bomba celebrated
its fifth birthday on Friday, October 21, since it first aired on Citizen TV,
with a milestone including previously winning several awards for highlighting
stories of women doing extra ordinary things.
To mark a five-year journey of highlighting remarkable stories of women from different walks of life, women from all over the country, assembled at a Nairobi hotel where five noteworthy women were feted with awards to celebrate their outstanding strides.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, award-winning journalist and Mwanamke Bomba host Mwanahamisi Hamadi emphasized on the importance of celebrating women and their accomplishment.
“Today we are here to celebrate Mwanamke Bomba, because every woman in different professions. We put aside this day to recognize and celebrate all the women who are doing their very best in whatever they do. As we mark five years since Mwanamke Bomba was first aired on Citizen TV, we have brought women from all over the country in order to recognize them and give them their well-deserved flowers for the tremendous job they continue to do,” she said.
Mwanahamisi noted that for a long time women have been doing tremendous jobs but they rarely get the recognition they deserved, further highlighting the importance of recognizing and celebrating fellow women.
According to Mwanahamisi, Mwanamke Bomba is full of humanness that makes the viewers relate to the stories highlighted and in turn able to inspire them.
“Providing women with the platform to share their stories gives me immense satisfaction. When you sit down with somebody and listen to their story keenly, you get a real sense of who they are. I am happy when a woman’s voice is heard. I have women who tell me how their lives changed after we highlighted their stories, from respect, recognition and more opportunities,” she said.
“I would love to thank the sponsors for this event, Kenya Human Rights Commission and Citizen TV for providing us with the platform to air these incredible stories and every woman who shared their incredible stories with me,” she added.
The event was graced by various notable women including Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani, Dagoretti North MP Beactice Elachi among others.
Governor Fatuma Achani urged women not to get discouraged by the challenges they face but instead follow and guard their dreams.
“Everyone in this room tonight is a Mwanamke Bomba. I want everyone to know what we are capable of achieving our wildest dreams all you have to do is decide to work on your goals. No one ever thought Kwale County will ever produce a female governor, today I stand before you, a testimony that nothing is impossible,” she said.
Most notable episodes on the Mwanamke Bomba segment include 83-year-old Cecilia Wangari, aka “ Shosh Mangoma”, a self-taught music technician who fixes music system for public and personal vehicles at her garage.
Another notable episode aired on Citizen TV is Captain Diana A Naker who is the first and only female combat pilot in the Kenya Army. She grew up in Turkana County and not once did she envision herself plying her craft in a male dominated career. Her story has been viewed by over 1.1 million people.
