The body of Getrude Nyaboke, which was
exhumed following her murder and secret burial at her husband's farm, has
finally been laid to rest on the same farm in Ensakia village, Nyamira County.
Nyaboke was found in a shallow grave after having been
missing for two weeks, prompting the arrest of her husband who was seen as the
prime suspect in her death.
The suspect, Brian Rioba, is in police
custody pending investigations before he is arraigned in Keroka on November 2,
2022.
An autopsy determined that Getrude had been
hit with a blunt object to the back of the head.
Police said the murder involved more than one
suspect and that they were looking for other suspects.
Getrude's family expressed relief following
the burial and asked security agencies to look into the matter and make sure
the culprits are brought to book.
“Tulifika hapa asubuhi na mapema na kile
tulikuwa tumeshuhudia ni vurugu ambazo zilikuwa zimeanzishwa hapa kwa sababu ya
huzuni na hasira ya wanafunzi waliokuwa wakisoma naye,” Nicholas Ogamba,
Getrude's brother-in-law, said.
Getrude's cousin Jackson Nyariki added:
“Wakati mtu anapoteza maisha, sisi tunaomba security agency wafanye uchunguzi
kwa njia ya haraka ili kujua chanzo cha kifo cha madam Gertrude.”
Her schoolmates called on the government to
address cases of domestic violence.
One of them, Truphosa Oseko, said, "The
rights of the deceased were violated, and the family members greatly, so I urge
the government to do something about domestic violence and these killers that
are freed from the court, something should be done."
