Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chair Nicholas Musonye has announced that there will be no ticket sales on match days during the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), a move aimed at enhancing crowd control and overall match day security.

Speaking on Thursday before the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Sports, Musonye emphasized the need for early planning by fans attending CHAN matches, especially those involving Harambee Stars.

“There will be no ticket sale on the day of the match. If Kenya is playing on the 3rd, there will be no ticket sales on that day.”

“This will help people to prepare in advance and reduce confusion at the gates.”

He noted that past experiences have shown that last-minute ticket sales often lead to overcrowding and security concerns, especially when Harambee Stars play at home after long spells without hosting international matches.

“We’ve learnt from the past. The crowd is always eager to watch Harambee Stars play at home, and if we leave ticketing until match day, it creates unnecessary congestion at the venue.”

Musonye also assured the committee that the LOC, in collaboration with national security agencies, holds daily security briefings to monitor and prepare for any potential challenges leading up to and during the tournament.

“The LOC and the security teams meet daily. Security is a top priority, and we are committed to delivering a safe and successful CHAN tournament,” he affirmed.

Kasarani Stadium will host all of Kenya’s group games with Nyayo Stadium providing an alternative option.
