The Senate will this afternoon, Thursday, November 27, 2025, convene to hear charges against Nyamira Governor Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo, a day after his impeachment by the County Assembly.

In a Gazette notice dated November 27, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi announced that the House would sit at 2.30 p.m. to consider the motion seeking Nyaribo’s removal from office.

The sitting has been convened pursuant to Article 181 of the Constitution, Section 33(3)(a) of the County Governments Act and Standing Order 80(1)(a) of the Senate Standing Orders.

Governor Nyaribo was impeached on November 25 after 23 of the 31 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) present voted in support of the motion.

Four additional MCAs had requested to be included in the voting through written communication to the Speaker, but were not part of the final tally.

The ouster motion, introduced by Bonyamatuta Ward MCA Julius Kimwomi Matwere, accuses the governor of abuse of office and violation of legal processes.

Among the allegations raised is the claim that he conducted county business through unauthorized “Bunge Mashinani” sittings that held no legal status.

Nyaribo is also accused of irregularly approving county funds to endorse Peris Nyaboke-Oroko as County Agriculture Minister during what was described as an unstable leadership period in the assembly.

Additional claims include the unlawful appointment of committee members for Keroka town and the establishment of a Public Service Board recruitment panel through the same informal sittings, said to have been active between October 2024 and June 2025.
