Nameless has said he won't accept society's outdated traditions, as he calls
them, of holding sons in higher regard over daughters.
Nameless, an
unapologetic girl dad who recently welcomed a third daughter with wife Wahu,
was responding to a fan who told him to get a son to cement his legacy because
"we are Africans".
The 'Coming Home'
singer in response said his legacy will not be determined by the gender of his
children but their character.
" Actually I really want my legacy to be a father of
three beautiful gals filled with wisdom, humility and compassion. Who will live
a responsible life that creates peace and joy for them and for others around
them. For them, that is the vision I am working towards," he wrote.
The 46-year-old went ahead to state that Africans should
let go of outdated parts of our traditions that are holding us back and embrace
a progressive approach to life.
" Saa zingine tunajiangusha
na traditions that are outdated. I understand that we have been taught to
follow our culture or tradition without question, but the truth is we are
suppose to use our wisdom to identify the parts of our culture that are unfair
or unprogressive and let them go, as we adopt more progressive , fair and
better ways of thinking and living," said Nameless.
"Cultural evolution is where my leadership flourishes...
Guys, don't just follow beliefs without questioning and looking for better ways
of living together as people... let's evolve buana," he added.
Nameless and Wahu, 42, took to social media last
week to reveal that they had welcomed a third child to their family, who was
named after her eldest sister, Shiru.
Calling it a
special day for them, Nameless shared an Instagram carousel with photos of
Wahu and Shiru in a hospital bed moments after her birth.
He also shared a video of the moment, writing:
“My first earthly connection with my third born Daughter, Shiru, named after my
eldest sister @rosemarymutunkei according to Kikuyu tradition. We’ll also give
her an African name soon.”
Wahu on her part shared a video with the
newborn and thanked God for seeing her through the pregnancy journey, which she
said was characterised by "a myriad of emotions."
"From the moment I knew I was carrying
you I loved you. I’ve loved every kick & turn you made, the doctor’s visits
where I saw your heartbeat; I’ve loved singing to you, talking to you,"
she captioned the video.
"I’ve worried, I’ve prayed and felt a
myriad of emotions for the past 9 months, and here we are now… when I finally
get hold you in my arms for the 1st time. It’s difficult to explain this
moment…all I can say is Thank you God. You have seen us through,” added the
'Sweet Love' hitmaker.
Shiru joined the power couple's 16-year-old
daughter, Tumiso, and Nyakio who is 9 years old.
