Critics dismiss claim DP Ruto visited the White House

Deputy President William Ruto on Friday announced that he had toured the White House, but a large section of Kenyans on social media however do not seem to believe him.

A single tweet, shared by DP Ruto Presidential Secretariat Head of Communications Hussein Mohammed, led to a barrage of criticism for the better part of Friday.

“Kenya’s Deputy President Dr. William Ruto & former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi led a delegation that was hosted at the White House in Washington DC today, in a closed door meeting where issues of strategic partnership between U.S.A & Kenya were discussed,” wrote Hussein.

The DP’s communications team also released a video on the social networking site indicating that he had visited the White House for meetings with U.S President Joe Biden’s administration.

Online users however dismissed DP Ruto’s online meeting insisting he had note met any delegation at the White House, but that he had instead visited the adjacent Dwight Eisenhower Executive office building.

The Kenya Kwanza chief is winding up his tour of the U.S and is scheduled to travel to the United Kingdom for a series of engagements, among them a meeting with the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.

Below are some of the tweets by a hot of Kenyans on the DP’s alleged White House visit:

@DonaldBKipkorir
"Deputy President & his delegation go for a tour of Eisenhower Building then post fake news that it was White House. Every tourist is free to visit US government buildings including White House .. But meeting US Senior officials is public & not closed door."

@silasjakakimba
"Unless it’s some desperation of sorts behind consistent misinformation to the public- Ruto doesn’t have a White House Entry Clearance on this trip. He didn’t , won’t have any meeting therein. Let him be back here to face the reality of August 9th."

@paulinenjoroge
"If you are visiting Eisenhower building which is adjacent to the White House, can you claim that you are visiting the White House?"

@mwalimu_dida
“Unlike our own Statehouse here, the White House is a very public place and anyone can visit. You just have to book in advance. In other news, Ruto is on a begging spree in US and UK. Now he doesn’t trust the IEBC that made him the DP.”
