Moses Kuria now says that he is prepared to align with unconventional forces in
order to bolster Kenya's struggling economy.
Despite President William Ruto ascending to power on the promise of lowering the cost of living and championing a better future for low-income citizens, Kenya is currently engulfed in a heated discussion regarding the high cost of living.
The enactment of the contentious Finance 2023 Bill, the recent hiking of fuel prices by the Energy Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) and the consequent surge in the prices of essential food commodities have further aggravated the hardships faced by Kenyans.
Speaking in Kajiado County on Wednesday, during the unveiling of the region's industrial park, Kuria noted that he is even willing to 'listen to the devil' if that will guarantee a positive surge in Kenya's economy.
"Wakati huu si wakati was siasa, huu ni wakati wa kila mtu...saa hii jamani mi ni mkristo na namwamini Mungu lakini ata shetani akiniambia vile uchumi itaamka nitamskiliza," said Kuria.
"Hakuna mtu siko tayari kusikiliza."
The CS similarly expressed his openness to receiving suggestions from members of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance on ways to improve the economy.
"Hii njaa haijui mtu wa Azimio ama Kenya Kwanza; lazima tuungane pamoja tuweze kufukuza njaa, umaskini, kupatia vijana wetu kazi, kuinua wamama na kusaidia wazee," he said.
Kuria likewise urged Kajiado residents to capitalize on the industrial park to add value to their farming ventures and lockout middlemen who he says have been exploiting local farmers.
"Among the areas of importance to the people of Kajiado, is the value addition to their Animals, production of Skins, hides, milk and meat. Reduction of post-harvest losses in Onions and tomatoes, and the preservation of the Maasai traditions, their ornaments which will contribute positively to attraction of tourists and foreign income," Kuria said in a statement on X, formerly Twitter.
"As promised during our Economic forums across the country and more so by His Excellency President William Ruto, we must get this country back to the production wheels and help uplift the standards of our farmers who have been exploited by the middlemen for too long."
