Nondies Legends unveil new partnership deal ahead of Uganda trip

The event will bring together a collection of legendary rugby players who have already exited the stage, and who are already in managerial roles with different clubs.

The match pitting Kenya’s Nondies Legends and Uganda Vets is also expected to revive the glory days of some of the greatest legends in the history of Kenya rugby.

This year's squad includes Shujaa legend Collins Injera, Lavin Asego, George Mbaye, Oscar Sudi, Moses Mukabane and captain Eddie Omondi.

They play the first leg on June 8 at the Kings Park Arena in Kampala.

Coupled with its social impact arm, the Tujiamini Initiative, the partnership with the Legends by Nondies aims to drive the joint vision of developing and supporting rugby and rugby-related talent from mentorship, all the way to professional top-flight competition.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the betting firm’s director of communications and sales, Willis Ojwang, hailed the move saying it will impact the rugby field positively.

“The partnership is also aimed at encouraging young and upcoming rugby players that they can achieve more if they believe in themselves just like the legends.”

The team is captained by experienced Oscar Osir, who during the event which also saw the unveiling of the official kits for the games, thanked the sponsors for extending their hand as he remained upbeat ahead of the two legged legend matches.

“It’s a great feeling to renew the partnership and I thank the sponsors for coming through again. Our match against Uganda will be an entertaining one and I’m sure this time round they have done enough preparations, so it will not be an easy one.”

Nondescript chairman Auka Gecheo who doubles up as Cecafa CEO hailed the partnership saying it will impact the youngsters in the game.

“The move has given the legend hope that it’s a self-sponsored team. We do foot our bills by ourselves including air tickets and accommodations and training expenses and it will assist a lot. Also legends taking part in this game is a great thing meaning they also keep fit their health considering the age limit has changed from when they started”

Last year, the Kenyan legends won 6-38 in the away trip to Uganda before picking a 31-12 victory at home to clinch the 2023 Legends Cup.
